PRE- TREATMENT ADVICE
Before attending your aesthetics treatment appointment there are a few key pre-treatment dos and don'ts you should follow to ensure you get the best results and minimise the possibility of experiencing side effects.
As with pretty much everything in life, treatments are not without risk and at Wendover Medispa we always aim to ensure our patients have all the information they need to make an informed decision before they commit to any treatment plan. The risk will vary depending on the treatment type but there are several key things that patients can do before their treatment to help minimise the chances of developing problems.
Dr Lorna will carry out a consultation before any treatment is carried out and this will cover any health concerns and medical issues. The information discussed in the consultation is treated confidentially and it is important that all issues are disclosed to ensure that the treatments are medically suitable. One benefit of having treatments with an experienced medical professional is that they will generally have a better insight into the potential interactions of any health concerns with the treatments that are offered than a non-medically trained practitioner will. Patients should therefore feel confident to have an open discussion to give themselves comfort that they are getting all the information that they need pre-treatment.
Certain medications can increase your risk of bruising and bleeding. These include aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil. It is best to avoid these for at least three days before a treatment UNLESS PRESCRIBED FOR A MEDICAL REASON. If you are taking prescribed medication this should always be discussed prior to treatment and not stopped unless under medical guidance.
Alcohol prior to your treatment can increase your risk of bruising. It is best to avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to your treatment to minimise this side effect. Vigorous exercise immediately prior to a treatment can also increase the risk of bruising.
Some supplements such as St John's Wort, Gingko, primrose oil, garlic, Ginseng and Vitamin E can increase bruising. Stop these one week prior to treatment for the best results.
Stop topical Retinoid treatments three days before your treatment.
Avoid hair removal on the area to be treated for at least three days prior to treatment
Do not have these treatments if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
